Nepal - Posted by: James on April 9, 2010
I was just talking to a friend of mine on how to build Eco-friendly toilets in the villages of Nepal. If you know some people who could guide and fund us or either one I would greatly appreciate it. Over 90% of Nepalese villages don't have access to toilets. No one taught them or they are not educated to learn on their own.
Right now I am working on building libraries in the villages, so far I am just about to complete one of them. I also need children’s books to fill the shelves. God bless and keep you! Loving Regards, James www.blfoundation.org
Food Needed in Ontario, Canada - Posted by: Sam Persons Parkes on January 19, 2010
The Kerr Street Ministries food bank serves over 5,000 needy residents of Oakville. When the youth show up for the after-school program they are hungry! We need nutritious snacks to feed them. Great ideas are crackers, cheese, popcorn, fruit, veggies & dip and home baked goods. Snacks can be dropped off at the office during office hours or call Michelle Lockhart at 905 845-7485 ext. 237.

I've also sent 3 boxes of school supplies to Afghanistan and have 3 more waiting to be sent. It's great to be able to 'Do One Nice Thing'. SH-M

Any assistance anyone? - Posted by: Rumika Joshi on August 29, 2009
He really needs help! Please take a look at http://bit.ly/MM93I You may reach him through his mobile number provided in the blog. Else, you may reach me at rumika.joshi@gmail.com. What I am focussing on here is: 1. Collect some fund which would be helpful for his children's education. 2. Tie up with a few good doctors who can provide assistance for his operation. Fire questions on me to check my credibility :) Thank you all!

changing the world - Posted by: Mary on June 25, 2009
In my opinion, nice-oholics ARE changing the world, one small, nice gesture at a time. Thanks, Debbie, for bringing us together, reminding us that EVERY gesture matters, and that this is a daily choice. We cannot always choose what happened. We CAN choose how we decide to respond to what happens.
Family Volunteer Blog - Posted by: J.C. Lavin on June 19, 2009
I just started the Family Volunteer Network to teach parents and kids to work together on volunteer projects around the world. My aim is to bring families together and teach kids empathy and a lifelong love of volunteering. I have links to sites all highly rated by Charity Navigator in addition to general info on how to talk to your kids about sensitive issues. It's for parents of kids from kinder to 12th grade.

Gift Your Stuff - Posted by: Sandra van der Lingen on March 17, 2009
Hi, I try to get a website off the ground which should make it easier for people to donate used goods to charity. The url is www.giftyourstuff.org. I started it because I was frustrated about the fact that it's not always easy to donate stuff to charity.
I live in Mumbai, a city with many needy people but even here it takes time and energy to find the right charity. At the moment we only listed charities from Mumbai but we plan to add charities from other cities/countries as well.
If you know of a charity in need of goods, let us know and we will post the info on the giftyourstuff.map.

Good Work - Posted by: Sunil on November 5, 2008
Hi D1NT Team, All of u r really doing an amazing work. I really appreciate it. I have started helping more n more to others without expectations. I want to share an incident from last month.
It was Tuesday and i had to rush to office for some urgent work which i was suppose to deliver on Tuesday, some development, testing and follow-up tasks of the IT-Industry programming works. So, when i reached the PETROL pump, i thought of getting some fuel filled up since it was very less in my Motor-Bike. I stopped at the fuel station and started filling up the petrol. Now,as soon as i completed filling the fuel, i saw that one boy, aged around 20 years, requesting the Staff to give him the PETROL in a Bottle. That boy's motor bike was stopped due to lack of petrol around 2 kms away. After many requests staff said that that it is against the LAW to give the petrol in bottle.
That boy seems to be very dis-appointed and and helpless. SO i decided to help him. I filled some more petrol in my bike and then and then later gave it to that boy, all these took more than 30 mins and i was late for office, my work was delayed but still i felt happy since i had helped someone which he would always remember. Also it he would help some other person in future :)

Hi there, I'm an international student in the US. Accidentally, I read an article about this organization. First, I think it's a right place for me to do a nice thing for poor and homeless people. I believe that kindness can connect people together. I would like to do one nice thing everyday in my whole life. It makes me feel happy and enjoyable. Second, I can find a place to help people, especially who are in need all over the world. Thank you for what you've done to make the world better place to live.

Pouring or Wastage of Milk and Oil - Posted by: Manish Thakkar on July 30, 2008
It is observed that in Temple’s so many people pours MILK on Shivling in Shiv mandir and OIL on the Murti of Hanuman and Shani Mandir. By pouring of this Valuable Foods like Milk, Oil, Madh, Ghee etc.. , it flows DIRECTLY into the Gutter.
By wastage of these materials - is GOD going to be Happy ? Will this not be a SIN ? If this Valuable Foods will be Distributed in the form of “PRASAD” to the to Ashram or Needed [Poor ] People then this articles can in real sense be Treated as Offering to GOD. Will this not be a VIRTUE ? Expecting the favourable action from your end to save the wastage of Milk & Oil. As without your support, We are helpless.

Water for a Crowd - Posted by: G K Agrawal on July 20, 2008
Your message "Take a cool drink to someone outdoors" reminds me of an incident:
It was a sultry day when serpentine Q comprising poor and backward classes was there in Mumbai dadar in the hot sun to pay homage to their leader Baba Sahib DR. Ambedkar on his Birth Anniversary. There were women, small kids in their lap, old and young, having come from far off places, patiently waiting to pay their homage to their leader who had been like God and Messiah to them in their social uplifting and getting a constitutional right for them for reservation in govt jobs.
There was no drinking water arrangement for a big crowd running into thousands and i felt moved seeing their pity. i went home, collected some big containers, mobilized some help from teen age'rs and started serving water to them which went on till late in the night. This gave me such an immense peace, tranquility and heavenly happiness which could not have been possible otherwise.
I will welcome any opportunity under your banner to serve poor, needy, women, men, children, old and destitute in Mumbai.
What a beautiful message - thank you. - Debbie

Books for Nigeria - Posted by: Babatunde Elizabeth on June 18, 2008
I am a young Nigerian who desires to improve her society in the best possible way. I established the G’READING BOOK CLUB early last year with the aim of providing an access for people, both old and young, in my area to have books to read and acquire knowledge through reading. Books, especially novels and self-improvement books are quite expensive in my locality, so I felt that having a book club in the area would solve the problem of affordability and equally help improve the literacy level in the community.
I would be grateful if you would send new or used books to us: G’READING BOOK CLUB, 34 Aderupoko Street Iwaya, Yaba, Lagos, Nigeria. Yours faithfully, Babatunde Elizabeth

Our Vitamins Reached Haiti - Posted by: Nancy Spates, MD on June 8, 2008
Thanks so much for Do One Nice Thing and all the vitamins, contributions, words
of support, and prayers. It meant so much to all of us (55) who went to
Mirebalais, Haiti to know that total strangers cared. 2200 children, including
700 under age 5, received a three-month supply of vitamins. Every time we gave a
bag or bottle of vitamins, we knew generous people in the "First" World back home
do care about what will happen to the children and people of Haiti, and those who
are hungry in the rest of the world. Pictures are posted at haitioutreachmission.org.

MUMBAI - help elders - Posted by: Archana on June 4, 2008
From my friend Rahul: I want to introduce you to an non-profit that I have been involved for a long time.
Founded by my father in 1980, Narmadaben Charitable Foundation Trust - NCF
http://ncf.cfsites.org, has set up 2 Homes for the Aged at CBD Belapur, Navi Mumbai. Since it was set up, at any time approx 100 elders stay there. Typically, mobile and retired elderly without children, those whose children are abroad/away, those constrained by space in expensive Mumbai or widow/widowers.
NCF charges the elderly nominally (Food & stay ~ Rs 3200/person/month) on a *'no profit, no loss'* basis. The idea is to provide an ambience for them to enjoy the remainder of their lives in company of *hum-umar *individuals, whom they can call friends.
We are keenly seeking people who could spare their time for various activities we conduct there. We are even open to ideas on how to introduce more activities and make their life more fun, more meaning. Those of us in and around Mumbai + interested in coming over, are welcome to visit with me - I visit on most Saturdays typically.
We are keen on an association with institutions which would like to study the phenonmenon and science of ageing/ gerontology.
Please also feel free to pass on this info to those elderly (and their relatives) who need these services could take adequate advantage of the facilities.
Regards, Rahul rahul.mehta@gmail.com.

A Library in Tanzania - Posted by: Chrissy on June 3, 2008
Hi all! What a wonderful network of people, places, and good intentions. I'd like to offer you all the chance to learn more about one little village in Tanzania, East Africa. The Imbaseni Free Library was opened in 2005 by Jifundishe (that means "help yourself!" in Kiswahili) in the rural village of Imbaseni, and has since been a tremendous resource to local children and adults in this area. Our little library has begun to show signs of wear and tear and we are currently fundraising for a new, sturdier, and longer-lasting facility! If you'd like to learn more about our library and other programs, please visit our website: www.jifundishe.org. Thanks!
Help for kids in Liberia - Posted by: Vita Tue on May 19, 2008
Community Development Outreach (CDO), is a not-for-profit organization in Liberia. Our country on the West of Africa, has just ended a devastating decade-plus civil war that killed over 250,000 people and destroyed the basic productive sectors of the Liberian economy.
CDO helps under-served kids and youths in the Borough of New Kru Town. It is a slum community with over 100,000 persons; youths constitute over 55% of this population. They survive on less than US$ 0.50 a day.
85% of the kids (3-10 years old) in the Nursery and Kindergarten Level do not have a befitting breakfast before entering class in the morning, nor even one balanced meal a day. This results in the poor academic performance of the kids - the future leaders of Liberia and a stouted growth. 80% of the kids do not carry a composition books, pencils, etc. to school.
In this light, the CDO is kindly soliciting assistance be it in materials or kind in giving a smile and future to the kids of Liberia. Conatct Vita Tue, Program Manager: vitaishmaeltue@yahoo.com

If you live in or near Los Angeles and have any to give, please contact Mike at editor@centurycity.news.com for free pick-up. If you are in the Philippines, please contact Ed Artis at KnightsBrg@aol.com.
The kids would also love to receive baseball or softball equipment. They’re playing with wrapped mango pods.

Nirvanavan Foundation in India - Posted by: Nirvana Bodhisattva on April 20, 2008
The Nirvanavan Foundation is working in with a community which is traditionally into prostitution. We have built schools which help break the pattern of exploitation and give these young women and men alternative choices in their lives. It is a slow process; such long-established traditions do not change overnight. But much progress has been made already. Our giving is not charity. It is a sharing of what we have. And it is not just about money. We have arguably much more to gain than we have to give.
How you can help: Please send pencils, slate, papers, stationery's, books for library, Black boards, chalks etc. to Nirvanavan Foundation, Advaita Garden, VPO: Hajipur-Dadikar, Alwar-301001, Rajasthan, India

Hi, while listening to your programme on BBC world service, I was bowled
over by your wonderful idea of do 1 nice thing, wonderful display of love which we
should all have for one another.
Please mind my English. As for the nicest person in my life, that has to be my
wonderful mother, Hazaran Bi Bi, who for me is the perfect role model, very kind
and brave, totally uneducated, but match for any professor, loves to help the
poor and needy. Whenever she goes home to Pakistan, she always has one suitcase
for herself and two to give away. No wonder she is the most loved person in the
village.
Skates for S. Korean Children - Posted by: Goo, Nam Gyeong on April 8, 2008
There are some elementary school students in South Korea who are skating champions, but they need some help.
The students practiced hard and they brought wonderful results. Last year they attended several national competitions and won many medals including the 43th Ganwon Provicial governor reward (Gold medai 13, Silver medal 13, copper 5), There are 20 speed skate players and 9 roller skate players among 55 students.
In 2008, the children set the goal: they want to win the championship flag at least 3 from three games and to be selected as 3 players of the Ganwon Province. So they practice so hard and have a wonderful coach, but they have many problems because there are no supporters. Their parents are poor and school can not receive support from the government, because there is no law for surpport.
The children need new 20 pairs of skates, because their old skates became too old to wear. Also they need uniforms for winter season. One pair of skates costs 1,200,000 (Korean). They are too far from the city, so when they need practice, they have to go to city to practice and pay for the entrance fee, transportation fee, and food. It took time one hour and half.
Roller skaters have no ground, so they have to practice at the road or at the parking place. Even if this kind environment, but they have hope to be good players at the 2018 Pyeongchang Winter Olympics.
The IOC did not decide to do it yet, but I hope the games held in Korea, because at that time I would like to invite the people who helped in the Korean war long time ago and want to say thanks a lot, also I want to invite people who raise our Korean children as their own children, and I want to invite misssionaries who helped Korea for long time so many ways. So I act as a supporter for the 2018 Pyeongchang Winter Olympics.

We can make a difference - Posted by: Jennifer Coutinho on April 1, 2008
This goes out to all in India. There's a little village called Gaya, in Bihar where there are a set of children willing and eager to study against all odds, but unable to do so for lack of proper infrastructure and facilties. A group of friends scattered around the country have started a venture to help out these kids. The venture is still in its teething stage and they need all the help they can get. The members of the group have been taking regular attendance of the children attending the makeshift school, in order to ensure that efforts made by potential donors are not put to waste. Anyone interested in knowing more about this may please contact Ranjay Kumar on email. His ID is catchnaughty@hotmail.com. Sounds silly but he had created it some time back when his goals in life were not clear :-)

Novel effort in today's turbulent world. - Posted by: Nibedita on March 31, 2008
Dear Debbie I saw an article in Times of India about this site. I simply marvel at your dedication for spreading goodness and motivating people to imbibe goodness for others. I am thankful to you for providing me a scope to think about my fellow beings. Many times it so happens that, even if I want to do something good, my circumstances don't allow me to do so. Ma be, just like this site which you started as a Monday exercise and could reach this stage, we can also start something good no matter how small it may be. Thanks for showing the true meaning of life. Bye Nibedita
